NASCAR Drives Into Sports Betting With New Data Deal
A new deal has been signed between NASCAR and Genius Sports.
- Genius Sports will be the sole provider for NASCAR data.
- Not many bets are being placed on auto-racing in sportsbooks.
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A new data deal has been struck between Genius Sports and NASCAR last Friday.
One Data Provider
NASCAR and Genius Sports have reached a deal regarding sports betting data. The data that sportsbooks need to post odds for NASCAR races will now exclusively be handled by Genius Sports. This will give Genius Sports a monopoly on NASCAR betting data.
On top of the normal odds that a sportsbook would receive for who wins a race, Genius Sports will also provide data for in-game betting. The odds for these kinds of bets will be updated constantly throughout a race to provide more opportunities for wagers to be placed during an auto-racing event.
"What could happen in the next five seconds? What could happen in the next lap? It opens the door to a massively exciting new market. NASCAR is now starting to recognize this is a huge fan engagement tool. We give them that distribution and that reach," said Chris Dougan, Genius Sports spokesman.
In-racing bets will not be immediately available. Now that Genius has signed a deal with NASCAR, it is going to take them a couple of months to have the technology ready to handle the bets. Genius said that within eight months, they will have the technology ready to take in in-race sports bets.
For now, the best USA sportsbooks across the country will continue to take bets on who is going to win auto-racing events and other props that do not involve in-race bets. Those kinds of bets are going to have to wait until the 2020 NASCAR season before they can happen.
